Insider's Report Claims Rush Has
Not Committed to UCLA. . . Yet--(Oct. 30, 1998)

A few days ago we reported that both Jim Downs and Michael Miller (making a guest appearance at WestCoastHoops) both announced that Kareem Rush had verballed to UCLA.  In fact, it got sort of funny reading about which one of them had "scooped" the other, and generally it looked like Jim was claiming he knew first, but had agreed not to spill the beans until the day after Miller announced it at WCH.

But now Insider's Report is announcing that Kareem has not committed after all.  At least not according to his parents. Here's the story, written by Mike Sullivan and posted yesterday at Insider's Report:

According to Kareem Rush's parents, their son has not committed to UCLA. "I don't know where that started but it's false," said Kareem's mom.

Two nights ago, the rumor surfaced and expectations had been quite high that Rush would commit to UCLA...and probably still are. However, the commitment has not been given, according to Kareem's mom and dad. "He's taking his time right now," she said. "But he has not committed to UCLA."

Rush has visited both Missouri and Oklahoma. His brother, Jaron [sic], plays for UCLA.

We don't even pretend to know who's correct in this one, and until we hear from Kareem himself, or until the Letter of Intent is signed during the early period starting Nov. 8, we'll take this all with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Even Sullivan is taking it with a giant grain of salt. On his message board at Insider's Report, he says in response to an inquiry for further information:

Our sources say he has verballed but his dad has said he hasn't...but his dad works late and rarely runs into his son until the weekend...so we have spoken to his dad last two nights...we should have some kind of update this weekend on the status...we expect him to go to UCLA whether he announces now or later...so if you are a UCLA fan I wouldn't worry...thanks for your interest...regards, Mike Sullivan
