Burlison Reporting That Kapono
Drops UCLA, USC & Stanford--(Oct. 6, 1998)

Frank Burlison in his regular Tuesday column is reporting today that Jason Kapono has dropped UCLA, USC and Stanford from his lists.  Frank notes:

"It will come as a surprise to many to read that 6-foot-8 Jason Kapono (Artesia of Lakewood) has lopped off UCLA, USC and Stanford from the schools with which he is considering signing.

"According to his father, Joe, Kapono soon will schedule official (expenses paid by the school) visits to UNLV, Utah, Missouri and North Carolina State.

Either Syracuse or Rhode Island will get the other NCAA-allowed fifth expense-paid visit, or Kapono might visit both at his family's expense.

Whoa. We understand Jason dropping UCLA, since they've never been high on his list, USC is a bit of a surprise, given that he told everyone and anyone he wanted to stay close to home, and Stanford is also not that much of a surprise, given their interest in Dunleavy and the verbals of Casey Jacobsen and Borchardt. But we are a bit surprised by UNLV, Syracuse and Rhode Island.  Utah still being in the hunt is a good sign, and Jason would absolutely love playing for Majerus. Kapono and Harrick??? Boheim and Tony Bland? Yeah, makes a lot more sense than Rhode Island.  Guess San Diego State is out too.  Oh well. So much for the "staying close to home" theory.
