Santa Barbara Girls' TOC:
Welcome To The Big Time--(Oct. 5, 1998)

Some of our readers read the postings and sent some e-mail about the coverage, or lack thereof, for the high school girls.  And after reading some of the postings, several of our readers took it to heart, and decided to start feeding us information.  This one comes from Aaron Solis, who wrote: " I thought I would pass along some information to you that I just got a hold of. This looks like it will be the best girl's basketball tournament in the country!!!!"

The tournament Aaron wrote us about is the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, hosted by Santa Barbara High School.  The tournament features three divisions (all schools listed in alphabetical order below), to be held Dec. 18 -23, 1998 (not playing on Sunday). Aaron notes " I will pass more information as I get it, including the web site for the tournament once it is up. I don't know how closely you follow the girl's game, but I wouldn't want to be Steve Kosaki, the tournament director, when it comes time to seed all the teams!"

Aaron also writes "Historically, the Gold Division has been for larger schools, the Green for smaller schools. But things get changed due to teams wanting to move up or down based on how strong they are that year. This is the first year for a National Division, and there are are several top 25 teams in it. The Gold and Green Divisions have most of the top teams in Southern California, if not the state. I will pass more info on the tournament along as soon as I get it!  This is going to be a good one!!!!"   While we can't say that we'll be able to make it because we'll be over in Vegas during that time frame, we trust that Aaron and several others will be there and will forward tournament reports.  We're looking forward to it.
