Jonathan Bender Spurns
Kentucky and Prince--(Oct. 16, 1998)

This isn't exactly SoCal news, but according to FullCourt Magazine, a new recruiting website (not to be confused with "Full Court Press" the recruiting subscription service published by Dino Trigonis for college coaches, or the other "Full Court Press" web magazine which is devoted solely to women's hoops),  Jonathan Bender (6'-11" Sr. C) from Picayune, MS won't be playing with Tayshaun Prince (6'-8" Fr. SG/SF) at Kentucky next year. Bender announced today at a 1:30 pm. press conference that he will  attend Mississippi State University instead.  Many people thought that Bender was  among the top 20 players at any position in the senior class. Like some of the big guys here on the west coast, Bender has a good perimeter game, and is a superb athlete.  Reportedly, Bender also passed on an offer from Florida.  By the way, if you didn't catch this in our preview of Compton Dominguez, Russell Otis told us yesterday that Tayshuan has finally started putting on muscle and weight. When he left for Kentucky at the beginning of summer, he weighed only about 183, but now is up to about 215, and most of that is solid muscle. Yikes.
