Mike Bell Is Hot Right Now--(Oct. 26, 1998)

Geez, here's a guy we forgot all about when we were doing our list of senior four men, and we inadvertently left him off the list.   Big mistake on our part. Mike Bell (6'-6" Sr. F) who played one game as a sophomore at Chatsworth two years ago, and then transferred to Canoga Park where he was a standout as a junior, and who will be a senior for coach Ralph Turner this year, is getting some serious attention from a lot of schools.  Mike is a strong player, with good speed, quick hands, and very good defensive skills with a decent shot from around 14' on in.  He's an impressive rebounder who can use his size well, and he's got a great three-point set shot with great range, and he can also go inside and penetrate, and can play the low post. Mike had a good summer, playing very well at the West Coast All-Star camp second session, and Mike was also on the Pump-N-Run 2-Hiltoppers team for the adidas Big Time Tournament this summer.

Mike was offered early on by the Naval Academy, but declined to make the committment, which of course extends well beyond basketball, but is currently considering making the same committment to the Air Force Academy. He's also gotten some serious attention from Montana, Cal State Long Beach, Idaho, UCI, Utah State and will probably also give UC Riverside and coach Rusty Smith some consideration as well, according to his Mike's mother.  Mrs. Bell (see we didn't call her Ma Bell--ouch) told us that for now, Mike is pretty wide-open to many schools, and is getting lots of mail.  He's had a few home visits, and liked Montana a lot, and will probably set up an official visit soon.  Other visits will follow and unless something jumps out and grabs him, we would expect him to wait until the spring to sign.
