Wow, Do We Get Letters. Boozer Is
Looking For A Team. Really.--(Oct. 8, 1998)

No, we don't mean a college team.

Seems that Carlos Boozer's high school team, the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears, last year's Alaska State Champs, host a tournament during the winter holiday break, the Capital City Classic.  This year's event is scheduled for December 27 through December 30, 1998.

One of the teams scheduled to play backed out.   So the coach wrote us, and asked us to spread the word. Here's his letter.  If you are a team looking to play against some of the best teams in the Northwest and Alaska, then this one is for you.  And, they'll pay the airfare!   Wonder if they'll pay airfare for us at SoCalHoops to cover the tournament (hint hint)? Hey, if you don't ask, you don't get.

Here's the letter:

We are looking for a boys team to come to Juneau, Alaska for the 1998 Capital City Classic. We will pay your roundtrip airfare from Seattle! We had a team drop out and are desperately looking for a team to fill out the schedule. Juneau-Douglas High School has won the state championship two years in a row and is powered by Carlos Boozer, perhaps the number one high school player in the nation. We are offering airfare from Seattle, homestays for the players, and a great time for everyone.

The tournament is from December 27 to 30. No games are played on Sunday (Dec 27) as that day is filled with events for all visitors: a tour of the city, including a glacier; three point, free throw, and slam dunk contests; a banquet for all visiting players, fans and coaches; and a dance for the kids. We guarantee you three games, with your evening game in front of a crowd of 2,000. I can guarantee you will have a great time and an experience you won't forget.

This year's lineup for the boys includes Garfield High School from Seattle, who were the 1998 state champs, South Kitsap High School from Port Orchard, Washington, and the host team Juneau-Douglas High School.

Please email Jeff Kemp at jkemp@alaska.net or call (907)586-1311. Please visit our website at http://www.alaska.net/~jkemp/bearsfbc.html.

Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon.

If you can't make it this year.... let us know about future years and we will pencil you in!

We just want to go to take the tour of the glacier.  Any takers out there?
