Russell Lakey Recruiting Update--(Sept. 7, 1999)

Several people have inquired recently about Russell Lakey (6'-0" Sr. PG/SG) from Studio City's Harvard-Westlake, and since we bumped into him this weekend at Bob Gottlieb's Branch West Basketball Academy practice session held on Sunday at Anaheim HS, we can now provide some definitive information.  It seems that Russell is being recruited by just about every Ivy League school, and has set up either home visits, or will take official visits to the campuses later in the fall.  About the only Ivy that he told us he's not currently being recruited by is Brown, a school which is not known for it's basketball program anyway.  Russell has home visits or is in the process of setting up official visits with Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.  We asked his father, Fred Lakey,  if there were any schools on the West Coast, and he told us, "Well, Santa Clara is involved, and LMU is showing some very serious interest, and Russell is considering them."

Russell is the cousin of Greg Lakey (6'-8" Jr. PF), who recently transferred from USC to LMU.  Greg will sit out this year and still have two years of eligibility remaining, so you still might see Lakey & Lakey playing for the LMU Lions in 2000.
