USC & SDSU Recruiting:
Kenny Brunner? More. . .-- (Sept. 2, 1999)

The word is out now that Kenny Brunner (5'-10" So. PG) will in all likelihood, end up next season at San Diego State.  Kenny is also reportedly going to be at the College of Souther Idaho (which is what we heard directly this summer) but others are reporting still that he'll be back at Santa Monica City College where he attended classes last spring.  And it looks like Brunner is not being heavily recruited any longer by USC, but with the recent defections and the lack of an incoming point guard at USC to give Brandon Granville relief, Brunner should still be considered a viable target for the Trojans, at least if he can demonstrate that he's a solid citizen both on and off the court.  Stay tuned.

As for San Diego State, if they were to land Brunner, they'd be stocked with excellent point guards.  With the addition this year of point guard Bradley Jackson (6'-0" Fr. PG)--who was slated to graduate from Inglewood and attend Cal State Northridge pursuant to a letter of intent, but who eventually failed to graduate (some said intentionally) so that he could attend prep school to improve his recruiting--the big question is going to be either sometime this year or by next season, what will become of David Abramowitz (6'-0" So. PG) who had an up and down (mostly down) season at SD State last season under former coach.

But back to USC. They will take a home visit with a player from Georgia named Lvardicus Atkins, a point guard of whom we've previously heard nothing. . . . the USC coaches will reportedly visit with him sometime after the 9th, on a date yet to be set. We really don't know anything about this guy, but we'll definitely try to find out.

Speaking of point guards being recruited by USC, (or rather combo guards), several sources are reporting that USC has a big one up it's sleeve, and they'll take a home visit with Taliek Brown  (6'-1" Sr. PG/SG0 from St. John's Prep in Astoria, NY, who is rated as one of the top players in the country, and who was also considered to be a top prospect for UCLA given the fact that Andre Barrett got away from the Bruins.  In addition to visiting with the USC coaches, Taliek, a solid, tough scoring defensive player who could immediately come in and run the point, will also visit with the coaches from UConn oon September 9, Syracuse on the 10th, St. John's on the 11th, UMass on the 13th, and Maryland on the 23rd. We don't give USC much of a chance with Taliek, since he mentioned to our sources this summer that he intends to stay in the East, but then, you never know until you know. . . .

Stay tuned.
