West Coast All Star Camp: Second Session,
Day One Schedule--(July 11, 1999)

Like the first session, the first day of the second session of camp was taken up with registration and open gym time in the morning as players rolled in, got situated in their dorms and checked out the facilities.  At 11:00 a.m. there was a parent orientation, at which Phil Bryant, the camp director let everyone in on some of the elementary realities of college basketball  (like the actual numbers of players looking to get recruited, and the purpose of exposure camps like this one).  That was followed by a general player orientation from 12:30-1:00.  Games finally got underway after some introductory speeches by Aubrey, Phil Bryant, David Pump, and some others. After the first session of games, which not only seemed short, (they were, since they were actually just 35 minute scrimmages where teams got to know each other) the players trundled off to dinner and then came back for Dave Hopla's shooting clinic and demonstration.  Sound like the first day of the first session?  Well, it was.  After that the evening games got rolling.  Like the first week, the schedule below may not make a lot of sense, but you can cross-check it with the rosters for the first session so that you can tell who's playing who, where and when.

We'll start with some preliminary player evaluations tonight and we'll do some additional ones from the first session too, since we've only covered about 1/3 of the players who attended the first session.

We're still in the process of getting all the rosters posted, but some teams and players to watch for would be:  Iowa (Phil Bryant's "stacked" team with most of the top guys in camp, including Lee Biddlecome, Jacob Chrisman, Casey Cook, Langston Grady, Andre Hazel, Marc Jackson, Garner Meads, Jason Parker, Sean Paul and Charlie Rodriguez), Minnesota (Cedric Thompkins, Steven Brown and David Gale), Arizona (Jason Morrissette), Alabama (Salim Stoudamire, Craig Weinstein), Alaska (Amaury Fernandez, Jack Martinez, Franklin Matos), Arkansas (Joe See), Connecticut (Montell Duhon), Florida (Jair Veldhuis), Georgia (Ronald Coleman), Illinois (Dustin Villepigue), Kansas (Hassan Bassiri, Baker Dunleavy), Maryland (Errick Craven, Jesse Foster, DeMarcus Williams), Michigan (Brad Buckman), Missouri (Jared ines, Abe Morrabi), Montana (Jon Steffanson) Nevada (Aerick Sanders, Brandon Brooks, Kyle Bailey), New Mexico (Sante Gayle), New York (Gary Hill-Thomas), N. Carolina (Derrick Craven, Jonathan Harper, Nick Tabari, Taylor Cohee), Ohio (Ramel Carrington), Oklahoma (Colin Ward-Henninger), Tennessee (Jonathan Sanders), Texas (Antoine Jerrell, Jonathan Williams).

We're sure we're overlooking lots of guys, in fact without the full rosters and seeing how these guys play the first day, it's going to be tough to predict who will blow up and who won't.  Ultimately, for the rising seniors, it's all about what the college coaches think.  For the rest of the underclassmen, it really doesn't matter, except that they play well, have fun and improve their skills by playing against the best competition, and get more knowledgeable about the recruiting process.  For the younger guys, there's lots of time, and this process really is just about getting better and better, little by little, each time out.

Having said that, here's the schedule for Sunday, July 11, 1999:
