Nike National Championships Day One
Results; Day Two Schedule--(July 28, 1999)

So TPI failed to show up, and we don't know exactly why, but it's probably because most of their guys are already playing for other teams, including EJ Harris who used to play for Dart Stamps but now finds himself on Miles Gonzales' Sports Express squad.  Oh, Gonzales also picked up Ellis Myles, who would normally have been playing for Dinos Trigonis' Belmont Shore team, which is scheduled to be up in the Bay Area at the Berkeley EBO "Elite Eight", but then it may turn out to be the "Sensational Six" because we know for a fact that the Pump N Run Gold team, which was scheduled to play won't be going either. . . too much burnout, the Portland players are stuck up in Portland, Salim Stoudamire's got summer school, etc., etc.   The absence of TPI in San Diego creates a hole in the schedule, but it probably won't bother the coaches who were in attendance, including Coach K, and Wojo, Bibby, Lavin, Steve Fischer, Romar,  Lute Olsen, Tubby Smith, Tom Izzo, and a bunch of other luminaries.

cook1.jpg (4048 bytes)They were busy watching guys like  Omar Cook (6'-0" Sr. PG), pictured left Darius Miles (6'-8" Sr. F), Michael Lee (6'-2" Jr. SG) from Portland Jefferson (who might just give Brandon Brooks a good run for some serious pt this season), Ellis Myles (6'-7" Sr. PF) from Long Beach Poly, who may reportedly end up at yet another school,  Wesley Stokes (5'-11" Sr. PG) also from Long Beach Poly, Tyson Chandler (7'-0" Jr. PF/C) from Compton Dominguez, Jamal Sampson (6'-10" Sr. C) from Mater Dei, Josh Childress (6'-6" Jr. SG) from Mayfair, and the rest of the Dominguez guys who are all on Barrett's Southern California All-Stars squad.
