Nike Summer National Championship
Schedule & Teams--(July 27, 1999)

High Five America is hosting the 2nd Annual Nike National Summer Basketball Championship from July 27-30th, 1999 at the Sports Center on the campus of USIU.  The organizers are boasting that the teams participating are the "16 best travel teams in the country, including perennial powerhouse New York Riverside Church and Southern California All Stars and defending national champions-The Illinois Warriors."

High Five is the host team, and according to Dave Axelson, tournament director for High Five, 75 of the top 100 17-and-under male basketball players in the United States will be attending this event.  Guess the other 25 will be up in Berkeley for the adidas Slam N Jam "Great Eight" event.    Of course, both events will feature many Division I college basketball coaches from around the country, since both of these events cover the last four days of the NCAA "open evaluation" period.

High Five's ticket prices are $3 - $4 in advance (guess they'll have different seating sections; they've got some nice bleachers and there is plenty of room at the west baseline on the main court) or $4 -$5 at the door.   We have no idea where you would get tickets in advance, so plan on paying the higher prices.  Unless of course, you can finagle a media pass :-). . . They're also offering full tournament passes  for $29 at the door, and group passes (10 or more) for $23 at the door.

The top teams will include Riverside Church which will be entirely the same roster that appeared at the Slam N Jam NIT last week, featuring Omar Cook (6'-0" Sr. PG), the Southern California All Stars, which is Pat Barrett's team which should feature a lot of the Dominguez guys, including Tyson Chandler (7'-0" Jr. C), Josh Childress (6'-5" Jr. SG/SF), Keilon Fortune (5'-11" Jr. PG), some of the Mater Dei players; Top Prospects, which should feature E.J. Harris (unless he's playing for Miles Gonzales on Sports Express), Jason Morrissette, Tommy Johnson, and others, while Sports Express will probably have several of the Pump N Run Gold players, including Lou Wright (if he hasn't already moved to East Memphis), maybe Branduinn Fullove, and who knows who else.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see when we get there.

Here's the schedule as far as we know; note there may be changes, but this is what the schedule looks like, at least as of today:
