War On The Floor: Day One
Results & High Scorers--(June 30, 1999)

Ok, here it is, down and dirty, the first day's results of the War on the Floor Tournament.  We didn't see all of the games, so there won't be any play-by-play commentary, just the scores, and a few highlights:

South Gym

Highlights:  Ok, there were a few. . . Biggest upset of the day (possibly the tournament):  Buckley beating LA Washington HS by 12, and leading by 17 with less than 2 minutes to play. . .  Biggest gaffe of the day:   Reseda, which showed up at 1:00 p.m. for an 11:00 a.m. game, thus forfeiting to Santa Monica. . . Highest scorer of the day:  Hassan Bassiri (6'-0" Sr. PG) from Campbell Hall, who scored 33 points in a loss to Harvard-Westlake. . . High assists:   David Gale (5'-11" So. PG) from Buckley, with 9 assists, 4 steals, and 1 blocked shot; Will Sheslow (6'-0" So. PG) Montclair Prep, 8 assists. Other high scorers were: Jammie Harris (Canoga Park)-- 20 points; Alex Remy (Alemany)--16 points; Cody Pearson (Notre Dame)--17 points; James Neal (Dorsey)--18 points; Hassan Bassiri (Campbell Hall)--33 points; Russell Lakey (Harvard-Westlake)--26 points; Andrew Moore (Crespi)--24 points; Colin Ward-Henninger (Buckley)--23 points.

The games continue Wednesday with pool play.  Games will start at 9:45 a.m. and will conclude sometime around 11:00 p.m. again as the final games of the day don't get underway until 9:35 p.m. Here's the schedule for the second round of pool play:
