1999 Say No College Classic Schedule
For This Weekend--(June 24, 1999)

The Say No Classic College league will be playing again this weekend, and this time we're dead serious: All the games are at West LA College which is located in Culver City just north of Fox Hills.  The maps are located below along with directions.   We're sorry if some of you tried to see the games at West LA College last weekend, because they weren't there but back at the old location, LA Trade Tech in downtown, but this weekend, we swear they'll be on the Westside.  Really.   And if they're not, well don't come crying to us about it.  Call Rod Smith instead.  Rod is, of course, the Men's division director for the Say No Classic Basketball League.

The Say No College Classic, which is in its 24th year,   will feature many of the local college players from most of the western college conferences (Pac-10, WAC, WCC, Big Sky, etc), and many former local high school stars who either will play next year or who have been playing in other conferences throughout the country (Big 10, ACC, etc).    All of the games will be at West LA City College, which is located in the Culver City area (see the map and directions below).

It's hard to know exactly which team all of your favorite players will be on, but we know from talking to Bob Gottlieb that the BWBA team will feature his son Doug Gottlieb, a former Tustin High star who is the starting point guard for Oklahoma State (Doug wasn't at the workout on Sunday because he's currently playing in Greece, but he'll be back this week in time for the games).  BWBA will also feature USC's David Bluthenthal, Kansas' Eric Chenowith,  Pepperdine's David Lalazarian, Sac State's Bo Segeberg, ASU freshman to be Kyle Dodd, Providence's Erron Maxey (who looked spectacular in the Sunday workout), and several others.  Touch Glove, coached by Andre McCarty, features UCLA's Billy Knight and as of yet, no one's Eric Knight (he's still looking at Sac State).

Todd Ramasar of UCLA is playing on the Riverside Stars along with Shea Cotton, who will be attending Alambama in the fall, along with former USC point guard Kevin Augustine who will attend a jc this next year while he looks for a place to transfer.  UCLA's  Ryan Bailey is playing on the team coached by his father, John, the Hollywood Nuggets, which also features Greg Lakey (formerly USC and now Loyola Marymount), Jeff Parris of Cal State Northridge and Germaine Chase from Montana. We know that IEBP features Jacqay Carlisle, who will probably wind up going to prep school, but we didn't see them last weekend, so we're not sure about the rest of the team.

When Ray Young returns from vacation, he'll be playing with Entertainment Tonight, the team coached by Ron Cahorn and which also features USC's Jarvis Turner.  Other UCLA players participating are Rico Hines, who is playing with Team Trauma, coached by Travis Jones, which also features USC's Shannon Swillis.   Interestingly, UCLA signees Jason Kapono and Spencer Gloger (along with Earl Watson who is back in Kansas City on vacation) are also playing with USC's Sam Clancy onthe "Say No" team coached by Ralph Jackson.   USC has most of its players on the West Coast team coached by Mark Sprague, including Brian Scalabrine, Luke Minor, Nate Hair (currently still out on rehab), Malachi Thurston, and at least according to Bibby Baby's website, a guy named Ryan Miller, a freshman at USC who we're guessing will be a walk-on. Also on West Coast is Sean Jackson of UCI, Delano D'Oyen of Santa Clara and Paul Brandt from Oral Roberts, who was there last weekend, but who told us that he'll be going back to Oklahoma for a couple of weeks this summer to meet and presumably play in some local leagues there with whoever gets chosen as the new Oral Roberts coach. .

Other players of note in the league are Jeff Trepagnier from USC who is playing on Hank's Team (coached by Carl Williams) along with Pepperdine's Nick Sheppard and Andre Larry of Cal State Northridge.  Sheppard is reportedly also playing on the "Hank's Big Time" team also coached by Williams, which features USC's Brandon Granville and Long Beach State's Rock Lloyd.  Hank's Little Hoopers is yet another team using the name "Hank", and we're not exactly sure why unless all of these guys are supposed to be Bibby's boys, which many of them quite literally are, but in any event, the Little Hoopers, coached by Robert Evans, feature USC's Shelby Jordan and Tito Maddox who has signed with Fresno State, but whose academic status is still in much doubt.

Most of the rosters are still being tweaked, and like other leagues of this type, in the next few weeks, players will show up, players will leave and others will switch teams. We hope to have Rod Smith or Michael Holtrey, a local JC coach who helps with the administration of the league, send us the completed rosters (which they promised to do shortly), but in the meantime, the lists above should get you through the weekend and interested in what and who you'll be seeing when you come out to watch.

The Say No Classic is divided into two "leagues":  The American League and the National League (coaches are in parenthesis, sorry for any misspellings):
