Cal Poly Pomona Signings: Jesse Boyd,
Earl Lewis, Jeremiah Turner--(May 19, 1999)

We just got word today from our friend and new assistant coach Steve Wachs, that Cal Poly Pomona issued a press release today detailing the state of their recruiting, and announcing at least two signings that we hadn't been aware of previously.  Here's the text of the release:

Cal Poly Pomona Head Men's Basketball Coach Tim Rapp has announced the signing of three athletes to national letters-of-intent. Set to compete for the Broncos next season include 6-9 post Jesse Boyd (Mira Costa HS), 6-5 wing Earl Lewis (Serra HS) and 6-5 wing Jeremiah Turner (Sylmar HS). The aforementioned trio join early signee Andy Bratt (Salpointe Catholic HS--Tucson, AZ) as players that have committed to Cal Poly Pomona next season.

"We feel very excited about bringing these young men into our program," notes Rapp. "All of them are excellent students as well as players. In addition, we share the same philosophy about the role athletics and college basketball will play in the collegiate experience as we remain focused on education as the number one priority."

Boyd was the co-MVP of the Ocean League this season after averaging 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He had been a first-team all-league choice as a junior. Lewis is a two-time All-CIF choice at Serra as the Cavaliers captured the Division IV CIF Championship the past two seasons. A three-time All-Del Rey League pick, Lewis averaged 20 points and nine rebounds per game as a senior and was the team MVP. Turner is the two-time Valley Conference Player of the Year, averaging 16.8 pints, 9.3 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 5.7 assists per game as a senior. A two-time All-LA City Choice, Turner also participated in the ABCD Camp, exclusively for the nation's top players.

The Broncos finished the 1998-99 season at 14-13 and return eight letterwinners for next year.

Congratulations to Jesse, Earl, Jeremiah, and Andy Bratt on signing with one of the better D-II programs around..
