Last BWBA:  Bim Okunrimboye
Recruiting Update--(May 4, 1999)

In addition to his report on the law firm of McGowan, Dow & Taylor, Bob Gottlieb also gave us a recruiting update on point guard prospect Bim Okunrimboye (6'-0" Sr. PG) from Sonora HS, who has been playing with Bob's BWBA travel teams. Here's the word:

"Outstanding unsigned 6'0" point guard Bim Okunrinboye from Sonora H.S. in La Habra scored 840 on his SAT test and now if he finishes strong in his classes, should qualify for the NCAA. He is a very talented scoring point guard. As a junior he averaged 20 ppg at Sunny Hills H.S. and transferred to Sonora to play under Coach Mike Murphy.  At Sonora, Bim averaged 15 ppg and 9 assists per game on a very talented and well-balanced team.  Last spring and summer, he played for BWBA #1 team and showed loads of potential. Much of his improvement academically must be credited to the personal interest Oscar Abreu demonstrated, giving him support, attention and guidance.

Bim practically lived at the Abreus, whose own son Robert is a well regarded 6'-5" rising junior at Sonora. Oscar taught Bim to study and understand the importance of his schoolwork, and Bim totally turned around his academics."

We're not sure who's looking at Bim, but it's likely at the moment that he's being considered a low to mid D-I player, and as noted, the only question will be whether he can qualify.  Assuming he does, he is a very good point guard and we've watched him several times, including as recently as this spring at the Pump Shootouts at Cal State Dominguez last month. He's quick, has excellent vision and can play somewhere in the mid to low D-I level and certainly anywhere at the D-II, or III level.

Coaches who want additional information about Bim should feel free to contact Bob or Coach Murphy at Sonora. Gottlieb can be reached at (714) 997-0380, or you can write to him at BWBA, 380 S. Liberty Way, Orange CA 92869.   Better yet, you can also reach him by e-mail at BRWest2@aol.com, or you can visit the BWBA website.
