Desert B-Rat: 10th Annual
IVL v. DVL Game--(May 14, 1999)

Our incognito sometime-correspondent from the Desert Valley area posted this up on the message board recently, and for those of you who are trying to avoid some of the nonsense and nastiness that occasionally finds it's way to the board, we thought it best to save B-Rat's notice here, especially since it gets archived in the Articles, instead of scrolling off into oblivion with the rest of the messages.  So here it is:

DESERT VALLEY HOOPS: Basketball news and views from in and around the Greater Palm Springs area and the Desert Valley League including -- Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella Valley High Schools.

The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported Wednesday that the 10th Annual Imperial Valley League vs. Desert Valley League Senior All-Stars Game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21 at Central High School in El Centro, CA. The IVL leads the series 5-4.

Schools in the IVL are Central (El Centro), Calexico, Palo Verde (Blythe), Brawley, Southwest (El Centro), Imperial and Calipatria High Schools.   Don Brady, varsity coach at Palm Desert High, who will coach the DVL team is quoted, "We're trying to even the record. It's a good chance for our high school seniors to play in a game and get some good recognition. They (IVL) have quite a bit of talent over there. They will be a good opponent. But I like the kids we have, too."

We agree with Coach Brady about the talent in both leagues. Central Union was ranked tenth in the D-IIIA, Brawley was sixth in D-IIIAA and Cathedral City was eleventh in D-IIAA on the CIF Southern Section Poll on February 8, 1999.  We expect to see most of the seniors on the All-DVL list including:

- Clifton Cooper (CCHS) - DVL MVP, DVL Top Senior Scorer, All-DVL first team, All-County second team, All-CIF D-II So.Section second team.

- Max Patrick (CCHS) - All-DVL first team, All-County honorable mention.

- John Rangel (PSHS) - All-DVL first team, All-County honorable mention.

- Joey Gill (PDHS) - All-DVL first team, All-County honorable mention

- Josh Alavarez (CCHS)- All-DVL second team

- Jimmy Custer (PSHS) - All-DVL second team

- David Barton (PSHS) - All-DVL second team, All-County honorable mention

- Adan Fernandez (PDHS) - All-DVL second team, All-County honorable mention

- Daniel Slone (PDHS) - All-DVL second team

We'll try to get a complete list for both teams before game-time or maybe we can enlist Coach Brady's help in posting it.
Stay tuned and stay active. (-:B
