San Jose State Signs
LBCC's Kevin Blunt--(May 7, 1999)

San Jose State has signed Kevin Blunt (6'-7" So. SF/PF) to a National Letter of Intent for next season.  Blunt was an honorable mention All-State JC player this year on the LBCC team which advanced to the semifinal round of the California Community College Championships.  The team, which also featured Schea Cotton, who has finally signed with Alabama, finished with a 33-3 record.

San Jose State issued an official press release this afternoon, so rather than repeat it or paraphrase, here it is:

Spartans Sign Honorable Mention All-State JC Forward

SAN JOSE (April 22) --Kevin Blunt, an honorable mention all-state junior college forward from Long Beach City College, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend San Jose State University next fall and participate in the men's basketball program. The announcement was made by Phil Johnson, head coach at San Jose State. 

The 6-foot-7 Blunt was his team's “Most Valuable Player,” averaged 13.5 points and was ranked among the top California junior college rebounders with his 7.7 per game average during the 1998-99 season. He also was 25th in the state and led his team in field goal accuracy with his 58.3 percent mark last season. The Long Beach City College team advanced to the semifinal round of the 1999 California Community College championship and finished with a 33-3 record. 

The resident of San Bernardino, Calif., attended Pacific High School. He also was recruited by San Diego State University, the University of Montana and Long Beach State University. 

Blunt is the second player from Long Beach City College this academic year to sign a national letter-of-intent to attend San Jose State. During the fall signing period, Darnell Williams, a 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 8.7 rebounds a game, signed a letter-of-intent. 

To date, Cory Powell, a 6-foot-5 sophomore from Independence College; 6-foot-7 Billy Landram from Olympic College; 6-foot-5 Brett Lilly from Riceville (Iowa) High School; 6-foot Terry Shelton from Crowley (Texas) High School; 6-foot Les Norman from Lebanon (Ill.) High School; 6-foot-6 LaKeith Henderson from Chaffey College; 6-foot Ozzie Lockhart from Cuesta College; 6-foot-10 Lawrence Felder and 6-foot-8 Ronald Strange both from Fullerton College; and 5-foot-10 Rashaad Hines from North Idaho College also have signed a national letter-of-intent to attend San Jose State.
