SoCalHoops Own Predictions Of The
Long Beach P-T's "Best InThe West"--(May 15,1999)

Since the Long Beach Press-Telegram will publish Louis Johnson's Annual "Best in the West" selections tomorrow, SoCalHoops is going to go out on a limb and make our own predictions about who we think will be selected to which teams. The selections below are pretty close to the ballot we submitted more than a month ago, but not exactly. First, we lost our ballot, and second, our own ballot was far heavier with SoCal selections, and what were doing here is not casting our ballot, but making predictions about  those players we think a majority of the other balloters selected. Subtle difference, but a difference nevertheless.

Just remember,  these are not the actual selections for the PT's Best in the West, but just our predictions.   If you want to find out who was actually selected to the Best in the West, you'll have to spend a buck and buy the paper tomorrow.

There's one prediction we're not going to make, and that's the BIW's Player of the Year.  No way.  But we will venture a guess:   It's going to be between three players, and we're willing to bet that the three are listed in the order we've predicted for the BIW First Team.

Because there were so many good players, including others we voted for who might not make the actual selections,  we've also included an "Honorable Mention"  list.  We also hate to leave anyone out, and we're also willing to bet that at least a few of the Honorable Mentions make the top teams too.

We don't know whether the P-T will actually include an "Honorable Mention" category, but if they do, we think it's likely that most, if not all of the players we've listed below will be on it.  And if the P-T doesn't have such a section, well, then we're including one so we don't look really foolish in the event we've left someone off of our top six team predictions who might have garnered enough votes among the other scouts and writers to make it  to one or another of the teams.  Just trying to cover all the bases.  We've organized our "Honorable Mentions" by state:
