CIF Southern Section Playoffs: Locations
Of Tomorrow Night's Semifinals--(March 1, 1999)

Tomorrow night, there are only 6 games being played, in Divisons I-AA, I-A, and V-AA (two games in each division).  The finals in both Division I brackets will be Saturday night; the Division V finals will be Friday night at the Bren Center at UCI and this will force a lot of folks to make the choice about whether to attend the finals in Southern Section Divisions IV-AA, IV-A, V-AA and V-A which are scheduled for the Bren Center at UCI, or whether to attend the City Section boys "City Championship" between Manual Arts and Fairfax which will conflict with at least some of these games.  The City Section finals is at 8:00 p.m., and it's possible to catch some of the other CIF SS games, because they'll be earlier in the day.

Anyway, here's what's up for tomorrow night.   Remember, all games are at 7:30 p.m.

In Divison IAA:

Jordan will host Artesia at Cerritos College in the upper bracket;

In the lower bracket, Long Beach Poly will host Corona Centennial at Long Beach City College. We don't know whether that's at the Goldmine (the old men's gym) or at the Pyramid, but if cost is a factor (as it always is in the CIF), the game will be at the Goldmine. . . just look to see which parking lot is more crowded and follow the fans.

In Division IA:

In the upper bracket, Glendora will play host San Bernardino Pacific at San Gorgonio High School

In the lower bracket, Simi will play Mater Dei at the Bren Center at UCIrvine.

In Division V-AA:

In the upper bracket, Pasadena Poly will host Desert at La Canada High School; In the lower bracket, Santa Clara will host Pacific Hills at Oxnard College.

Remember, in Divisions II, III, IV, and V-A,   there are no games, because all the semifinals were played last Friday night; the finals will be this weekend.

Geez. . . which game to go see?  We don't know yet, but Simi v. Mater Dei is pretty attractive right now, as is Long Beach Poly v. Corona Centennial; but then so is Jordan v. Artesia. .  . and Glendora v. Pacific is a battle of two great offensive teams.  Poly v. Desert is intriguing, just because we don't know a thing about Desert, and Santa Clara v. Pacific Hills is going to be a great game featuring more than a few Division I college prospects too.  Guess we'll have to decide by tomorrow.  See you there, wherever "there" happens to be.
