High Five America Gets New Website;
Upcoming Tourneys--(March 30, 1999)

Last summer we attended the Nike National Summer Championships run by High Five America at the great facility at USIU, and learned a little bit about their programs and some of the local players from the San Diego area who have played on their teams and in their games.  Recently (well, actually it was back in February) we learned from Dave Axelson, the High Five Tournament director, that High Five America also has a new website, and you can find it at http://www.highfiveamerica.com.  In addition to a complete description of their many programs, from high school leagues and individual instruction, to their college level teams,  you'll also find a complete listing of their future tournament offerings. The site is definitely worth a look, and of course, if you are a player, coach or parent in the San Diego area, this is definitely a program you should check out.

Given the fact that we were so busy in February and March with the CIF playoffs and State Championship games, we just didn't have time to correct all of our tournament listings, but now that things are calming down a bit (geez it still seems like there are a ton of things to do, what with all the spring leagues and tournaments coming up) we've had at least some chance to update and revise some of our other pages (including our SoCal Leagues & Teams page, and we'll be getting the tournament stuff updated also in a little while .  In the meantime, we know we missed listing the High Five America "March Badness" Tournament for teams 10-U throuhg 13-U which was held March 13-14, and for teams 14-U held March 20-21, 1999, but there are some other High Five events coming up that you should know about, and we wanted to be sure that all of our readers learned about them:  The first is the High Five Memorial Day Tournament May 29-31, 1999. The entry fee is $300 per team, and then there is also the Columbus Day Weekend Tournament October 9-11, 1999; the entry fee for the October event is $275 per team.  And just as they did last summer, High Five America will again host the Nike National Summer Basketball Championships from July 27-30, 1999, which will feature 16 of the best boys high-school age travel teams in the country. David Axelson, who is the General Manager and Tournament Director for High Five tells us that they expect at least 60 of the country's top 100 basketball recruits at the National Championship event this summer.
