Chris Monroe Commits To Idaho,
Matt Okoro To UC Irvine--(March 23, 1999)

Usually we're not this slow on the uptake, but lately we've just been overwhelmed and trying to catch up from the State Finals and all the other stuff going on these past few weeks.  One of the news items we've been a bit slow to acknowledge is the commitments of a few SoCal players.

First, as noted on our message board in the "self-promotion" controversy, one of the best self-promoters has promoted himself right into a D-I college scholarship.  Not that he really needed much promoting, because at 6'-8" and 240 pounds, Chris Monroe from Granite Hills High School has been pretty hard to miss.  He's been playing at the Rockfish Spring League, at the Double Pump Unsigned Seniors Shootout two weeks ago, and generally playing whenever and wherever he would be seen by college coaches.

So we were very pleased to see that Chris has given a verbal commitment to the University of Idaho, where he will step in and be an immediate impact player, and where he will join Lance Buouncristiani (5'-8" Sr. PG) from Reno Galena High, one of the busiest point guards we've ever seen.

And Chris is not the only Rockfish player to commit in the last few days. Matt Okoro (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF) from Buena Park HS, who has also played in the Rockfish Spring League on Bob Gottlieb's BWBA I team this year, has given a verbal commitment to UC Irvine.  Matt is a developing player, with a good outside shot, an excellent handle, and nice quickness.

Congratulations to both of these guys on their signings.
