Double Pump Unsigned Senior Discovery
Shootout This Weekend--(March 8, 1999)

If the California State Tournament time is near, then spring and the NCAA open-evaluation period is here also.   Which also means that the Double Pump Discovery Shootouts and Spring Tournaments will be taking place

This coming weekend at Cal State Dominguez Hills, March 13-14, 1999 from 9:00 a.m. untill 7:00 p.m. the first of two such shootouts will be held.  This weekend will be the "Unsigned High School Senior Boys' Shootout".   The following week will be the "High School Boys' Shootout" and we'll expect a lot of the same teams, but there will be many, many more underclassmen March 20 & 21.

This coming weekend, college coaches from all over the country will be in attendance, and it will be a great time to check out not only the unsigned upper-classmen, but also time for some of these coaches to cruise just a few miles down to the Pyramid at Long Beach State for the finals in Divisions II, III and V.

This coming weekend's Pump Discovery Shootout will feature some great players, including two Pump 'N Run teams composed of guys such as Kyle Dodd (Brea Olinida), Tony Dow (Ocean View), Noel Felix (Inglewood), Eric Knight (Westchester), Earl Lewis (Serra)--who probably won't be there if Serra continues to win-- Jack May (Ayala), Glen McGowan (Venice), Ryan Sims (Crenshaw), Armand Thomas (Crenshaw), Jeremiah Turner (Sylmar), Kent Dennis (Cleveland) and others, who will be playing on the Pump 'N'Run teams coached by  Howard Avery and David Goosen.

In fact, there will be more than 40 teams (44 if the event completely fills out) coming to play, consisting of virtually all unsigned seniors (with a few juniors thrown in here and there).  There will be 10 teams made up of "individual" players who have signed up to play but aren't entered with an outside team.  We won't know the names of those players for a few days, but as soon as we find out, we'll post up the rosters.

Of the other "outside" teams besides the Pump 'N Run teams and the Pump All-Star teams, there will be teams like:

4D Stars, which will feature players such as Dan Kinzer (Harvard-Westlake), Jermel Brooks (North Torrance), Charlie Kundrat (Villa Park), Alex Will (Villa Park), Jake Dederer (Peninsula), Dialo Washington (Crenshaw), Marvin Issacs (Inglewood), and others.

805 Basketball (George Albanez' team) which will feature some of the Santa Barbara & Dos Pueblos guys like Tony Freeman, Dan Entremont, Jason Williams, Alex Jenkins, and others.

BWBA, (Bob Gottlieb's team) which will feature players like Joseth Dawson (Fontana), Mike Stowell (Capo Valley), Peter Johnston (Tustin), Jerett Skrifvars (Brea Olinda), and others.

Camp Exposure, which will bring two teams, including players like Paul Heredia (Cathedral City), JT Leitch (El Segundo), Alan Purnell (Savanna), Jamal Walls (isn't he a sophomore?)  Rodney Anderson, Aras Baskauskas (Santa Monica), Glen McGowan (Venice), Marquis Poole (what's he doing here, he's signed with Washington State?), David Vance (Venice), Keith Jackson, and others.

Other teams will include the "Dirty Birds", another team called "Golden League" with guys like Joel Smith, Jack Bazey, Maruice Davis, Roberto Zamora, Jason Carlson, a team from Hayward, a team from Silverado (NorCal), and IEBP will have three team featuring, among many others, Kristan Jordan, Jamar Walker, Jacqay Carlisle, Derek MgBeke, Kamron Leonard, Garreth Reed, Bo Segeberg, Scott Anderson, Calvin Afualo, Doane Cole.

Team Inflight, which is Mike Livaccari's team will feature Doug Craine,  Robbie Leark, Jeff McDaniel, Chris Livaccari, David Peters, and a few others.

There will be several teams from Reno, and even though he's already signed,  Lance Buoncristiani will be out there making a lot of other guys look really good with his passing skills.

There will be a team from Morro Bay High School, and the NC Gridley Dogs will, as always, send their usual contingent.

Team Pacific Coast, will be Rob Alexander's new team (no he's not coaching the Pump 'N Run team this time), which will be a mix of guys from Mira Costa, Canyon, Foothill and other schools, including guys like Drew Buford, Matt Tisthammer, Adam Rachlin, Larry Pettis, Neil Hammad (Canyon), Jordan Brown, Kent Dennis, Chet Johnson (University), Ryan Romberg (Canyon), Jesse Boyd (Mira Costa), Matt Okoro (Buena Park)

The Sacramento Huskies will be appearing with some players from the Sac-Jaoquin area. Palmdale will send a team (we haven't seen the roster yet), and a team from Sonora will be there with guys like Marqui Worthy, Bim Okunrimboye, Chris Monroe (Granite Hills), Matt Okoro (again), Mike Pink, and others.

"Streetwise" which plays in these events every year will send two teams, which will have guys like Kenny Crabbe, Cameron Jackson, Neil Hammad (again?), Kyle Fullmer, Dan Horan, Billy Curry, and Josh Burgess.

There will also be a team from San Diego, called, appropriately "Team San Diego",  Another team called   "West Valley" which is not from the San Fernando Valley, but from Saratoga & Santa Clara will bring a bunch of guys as well, and finally there will be a team from Phoenix, Arizona called "YBAA" and we don't really have a clue right now who's playing on that team.

David Pump also tells us that in addition to the local players, there will be some real "surprise" players coming in for this one too. Don't miss it.
