Here are the details of these games:

Artesia 105, Palmdale 29--The Pioneers, the No. 1 seed in the division, had no problems defeating the Falcons in a first-round match up at Artesia High. The Pioneers took 63-10 lead in halftime and cruised the rest of the way. Sophomore forward Jack Martinez led Artesia with 17 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots. Senior forward Jason Kapono continued his stellar season, scoring 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds and seven assists. Franklin Matos also had 15 points while Amaury Fernandez and Andre Hazel each chipped in with 11. Artesia, who improved to 25-2, will play San Gabriel on Tuesday in the second round at 7:30 p.m. at a site yet to be determined.

San Gabriel 72, Redlands 64--Redlands (19-9) had a decisive height advantage, but the Terriers could not contain San Gabriel guard Martin Del Toro. Del Toro, averaging 26 points a game, scored 32 to lead San Gabriel (15-12) to a Division I-AA first-round victory. Del Toro made four three-pointers and scored 17 points to the first quarter, helping the Matadors, who had no player taller than 6-foot-1, take a lead they would never relinquish. When Redlands made a run in the fourth quarter, San Gabriel held on by making 22 of 29 free throws; Del Toro was 10 of 10 in the quarter. Redlands' 6-11 center Alex Graham and 6-6 forward Danny Genung dominated the boards, but the Terriers shot 31.9 percent from the floor. Graham had 14 points and 22 rebounds, and Genung had 14 rebounds and 13 points. "We were horrendous," from the field, Redlands coach Randy Genung said. "At one time we missed five consecutive putbacks in a row. It was a game we should have won if we made any shots at all." REDLANDS (64) -- Avilla 5, Siess 24, Graham 14, Glassco 2, Genung 13, Carrier 6. SAN GABRIEL (72) -- Contreras 7, Giron 15, Del Toro 32, Gonzalez 7, Ashton 7, Carrillo 4. Halftime score -- San Gabriel 32-23. Three-point goals -- Siess 3, Avilla, Del Toro 5, Gonzalez. Total fouls -- Redlands 23, San Gabriel 20. Fouled out -- Carrier, Ashton, Giron. Technical fouls -- Giron.

Lynwood 70, Quartz Hill 69--The Rebels (19-8) took a 26-17 lead at the end of the first quarter and built it back to nine points on a 3-pointer by Tony Johnson early in the second. But that's when Lynwood caught fire, outscoring Quartz Hill 18-2 over the next six minutes to take a 41-33 lead with 1:58 left in the first half. During that run, the Rebels missed seven consecutive free throws and went more than seven minutes without a basket. Quartz Hill, however, fought back and closed the deficit to one point, 41-40, on three points by Andrew Austin (13 points) and two each by Tomlin and David Walker. The key to the first half was the Knights' ability to hold Quartz Hill sharpshooter Brady Chelette, who scored a game-high 30 points, without a basket in the second quarter. Chelette got hot in the second half, however, and managed 10 points in the third quarter as the Rebels outscored Lynwood 21-14. Chelette continued to have the hot hand in the fourth, scoring all eight of the Rebels' points in the quarter.  But the game came down to the final minutes, as Gary Lenoir hit an 8-foot jumper with seven seconds left, capping a 12-2 run over the final 4:46 of the game that helped the Knights claim an exciting 70-69 victory over the Rebels in the first round of the Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs. Lenoir scored a game high 25 points for Lynwood. After Lenoir's 8-foot jumper, Quartz Hill coach Bernard Nichter called a timeout. With the Knights (17-10) employing a full-court press, the inbounds pass went to Tomlin, who drove the length of the floor with Lenoir guarding him, and rimmed out a shot at the buzzer. Duante Burns grabbed the rebound to seal the victory. Keyawn Floyd had 23 points and 12 boards   Lynwood will now play Eisenhower on Tuesday in the second round at 7:30 p.m. at a site yet to be determined.

Eisenhower 75, Murrieta Valley 53-- This was a battle between two great D-I prospects, Trenell Eddings and Brian Wethers. Rialto Eisenhower was able to shut down Murrieta Valley star forward Brian Wethers Friday night in a Division I-AA first-round playoff game. Not until the Eagles were able to contain the rest of the Nighthawks did they run away with a 75-53 victory. Murrieta Valley (21-6) led by two points at halftime, and Wethers had not been a factor, scoring four points. Guard Peter Brown took up the slack and scored 14 points to give the Nighthawks a 39-37 lead. In the second half, Eisenhower (21-6) dominated on both ends. The Eagles' man-to-man pressure defense stymied Murrieta Valley's motion offense. Eisenhower outscored the Nighthawks 27-6 in the third quarter to take a 64-45 lead. The Eagles, who made 13 of 38 shots in the first half, were 10 of 17 from the floor in the quarter. Eisenhower will play at Lynwood, a 70-69 winner over Lancaster Quartz Hill, in a second-round game Tuesday. After Wethers opened the third quarter with two free throws, the Eagles went on a 11-0 run to take a 48-41 lead. Wethers finished off a fastbreak to make it 48-43, but Eisenhower closed the quarter with a 16-2 run. Murrieta Valley committed 10 turnovers in the third quarter and was 2 of 8 from the floor. Eisenhower overplayed the passing lanes on the perimeter, and Murrieta Valley was unable to get the ball inside on a back cut as it did often in the first half.  Wethers, averaging a Riverside County-leading 27 points a game, took just nine shots, making four, and scored 10 points. Murrieta Valley had more turnovers (16) than points (14) in the second half and made 6 of 16 shots in the final two quarters. Trenell Eddings, who was 3 of 13 from the floor in the first half, scored 12 points in the third quarter and finished with 23 points and four assists. Darun Ang (10 points) scored eight in the quarter.  MURRIETA VALLEY (53) -- Cole 2, Wethers 10, Brown 18, Stiewel 4, Cordova 14, Coyle 7.  EISENHOWER (75) -- Owens 6, Eddings 23, Afualo 17, Wilson 2, Ang 10, A.Rouzan 7, Franklin 4, Sams 4, Curtis 2. Halftime score -- Murrieta Valley 39-37. Three-point goals -- Coyle, Eddings 3, Afualo 2. Total fouls -- Murrieta Valley 15, Eisenhower 14. Fouled out -- Cordova.

Upland 60, Etiwanda 43--Upland High School's boys basketball team appeared nervous and tentative at the outset of Friday's CIF Division I-AA first round playoff game. Trailing by five points early in the second quarter, the Highlanders switched to a match-up zone and stymied Etiwanda, 60-43, at Upland High School. The Highlanders, ranked No. 1 in the Inland Valley, advance to play at Ayala in the second round Tuesday. By extending the defense, the Highlanders shut down the Eagles' offense. Upland (23-3) went on a 13-0 run over the final seven minutes of the second quarter to take a 25-17 halftime lead. Upland's presence inside, with 6-foot-6 senior forward Desmond Penigar in particular, gave Etiwanda fits. Penigar scored a game-high 31 points (on 14-of-19 shooting) and added 13 rebounds, while Etiwanda was forced to settle for jump shots.  And the jump shots didn't fall. Etiwanda, ranked No. 9 in the Inland Valley, shot just 30 percent from the field, while Upland hit on 49 percent of its shots. But Etiwanda (17-9) jumped out to a 15-8 lead and took a 17-12 lead on Orlando Solano's short jumper with seven minutes to play in the first half. They were the only points Etiwanda scored in the second quarter. The Eagles were 1-of-9 shooting with eight turnovers in the quarter. Etiwanda had 13 or 14 trips in a row that were empty possessions. Penigar took over, scoring eight of the game's next 11 points, including a fast-break slam dunk off a pass from Prentice Harris with 2:35 left in the quarter. Penigar scored 17 of Upland's 25 first-half points, before he got some help in the second half. Colin Strand scored 11 of his 14 after halftime and Steven Hamilton added five points and six rebounds, all after halftime. The Eagles couldn't string back-to-back baskets together at all in the third quarter, and trailed 42-31 after three quarters. Etiwanda couldn't get closer than eight points in the fourth quarter. Solano scored 13 points to lead Etiwanda while Kristian Jordan added 12.

Ayala 81, Valencia 56--Ayala went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter and led by as many as 30 points on their way to the win. The game was close at the half, with Ayala ahead 30-27. Jack May led the Bulldogs with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, and Chris Pacana had 13 points and six assists.
Ekisha McDaniels led Valencia with 28 points.

Santa Maria 55, Santa Monica 52-- Willie Milner scored 19 points as Santa Maria beat visiting Santa Monica in a Division I-AA game. The Saints are 17-7.

Long Beach Jordan 89, Channnel Islands 57--Dwight Sattiewhite scored 19 points for Channel Islands, which couldn't recover from an 18-point halftime deficit at Long Beach Jordan.  Channel Islands (11-14) trailed, 22-16, after the first quarter and was outscored by the No. 4-seeded Panthers, 24-12, in the second quarter. Jordan came out edgy and nervous, allowing over-matched and under-sized Channel Islands to hold the lead for nearly the entire first quarter. But, with the jitters finally under control, No. 4 seed Jordan (22-6) took a 33-16 lead by scoring 17 unanswered points in a four-minute span that closed the first quarter and opened the second period. The 17-0 run began with a layin by Darren Peterson and concluded with two free throws by Craig Calloway. In between, Travon Bryant had six points, Peterson drained a 3-pointer, Eric Gathrite nailed a 15-footer and Greg Grant scored on a layin. Channel Islands (11-14) never seriously threatened afterward, largely due to having no answer for the 6-foot-7 Bryant and the Panthers' inside game. Bryant finished with 16 points, 17 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, and three blocked shots.  Jordan outrebounded Channel Islands 42-15, largely on the strengh of Bryant's inside game. The Panthers, who advance to Tuesday's second round against Santa Maria, also had nice balance with the outside shooting touch of Peterson, who had four 3-pointers and 17 points, and Calloway, who led the team with 20 points.

Fontana 67, Montclair 51--Baron Baker scored 27 points, and Scott Anderson added 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Fontana (19-8) won a I-AA first-round game. Fontana jumped out to a 15-point halftime lead but struggled from the floor. "We played a little sloppy tonight," said Fontana coach John McNally. "We got a little lucky tonight. If we play like we did tonight, we lose most of those games." Fontana never trailed while taking a 15-7 lead after the first quarter and extending it to a 15-point halftime lead en route to a 67-51 win in the first round of CIF Division 1AA playoffs. Baron Baker scored 11 of his game-high 27 points in the first half and also finished with six rebounds and five assists for Fontana. Scott Anderson added 12 points (eight in the first half) and 15 rebounds for the Steelers, and Joseth Dawson had 10 points, four assists, and four steals. The second half was marred with fouls (each team finished with 22) and Montclair hit 16-of-22 free throws in the half. Montclair pulled to within seven points, 54-47, with four minutes to go, thanks to the play of Ronald Williams (21 points) and Garreth Read (10 rebounds, four blocks).Montclair (13-11) cut the lead to seven with four minutes remaining, but Baker hit four consecutive free throws to pull away for the victory.  MONTCLAIR (51) -- Williams 21, Holliman 0, Jones 9, Read 7, Ryan 5, Cervants 2, Smith 3, Avery 2, Fregoso 1, Kriss 1 FONTANA (67) -- Baker 27, Holmes 3, Stephenson 5, Dawson 10, Anderson 12, Machado 2, Gipson 1, Walker 7 Halftime score -- Fontana 34-19. Centennial chipped
away at the 11-point deficit and ended the half down by five. A Huskies' steal and layup gave them the lead in the third. Littlerock got only as close as three.  Jamaal Williams had Centennial with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Capistrano Valley 73, Yucaipa 67--In the opening round of CIF Division I-AA playoffs the Capistrano Valley boys basketball team didn't dominate Yucaipa, but they still won. The Cougars advanced to Tuesday's second round with a 73-67 victory over the Huskies at Capistrano Valley High. Nathan Hair led the Cougars (22-6) down the stretch, scoring 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. The Cougars took a 21-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Huskies turned to their outside shooting to get back in the game. Steve Pahe used one of his five three-pointers to tie the game at 21 early in the second quarter. Yucaipa forged ahead, 28-25, when Richard McCollum scored off a turnover, but two consecutive baskets by J.J. Sola put Capo Valley back in front. Sola led all scorers with 28 points.  The Cougars started the second half with a 9-2 run, and later opened a 51-41 lead, but Pahe's three-pointer at the end of the quarter narrowed the gap to seven points. The Huskies forced the Cougars to win the game at the free-throw line and almost got away with the strategy. Mike Stowell (23 points) missed two free throws with 48 seconds left and the Cougars holding a 68-65 lead, but he got his own rebound and scored the basket that put the game out of reach.    Jake Jones scored 17 points to lead Yucaipa.  Nate Hair, who has signed with USC,  was held to just 12 points and received a technical foul in the game.   YUCAIPA (67) -- Rhoades 2, McCollum 8, Pahe 15, Florence 11, Jones 17, Carroll 14.   CAPISTRANO VALLEY (73) -- McDaniel 7, Stolwell 23, Hair 12, Cangelosi 3, Sola 28. Los Alamitos 63, Warren 57--In coming up with a game plan for first-round playoff foe Warren High, the Los Alamitos coaching staff noticed a soft spot in the Bears' interior defense.  The Griffins used that weakness against the visiting Warren all night long, edging the Bears, 63-57, in an intense CIF-Southern Section Division I-AA opener Friday between two of the area's top-ranked teams. Los Alamitos (20-7), which hadn't won a playoff game since 1996, will now face Ontario (24-3) in the second round Tuesday night. The inside-out attack of shooting guard Ron Prettyman and center Jeff Grgas, who combined for 39 points, spelled Warren's undoing. Nearly unstoppable in the paint, Grgas scored 10 of his 19 points in the first quarter to give Los Alamitos a 21-15 lead. The Bears (21-6), who got 17 points from guard Curtis Williams and another 14 from forward Robert Borg, went on an 8-3 run to cut the Los Alamitos lead to just 24-23 at the 5:09 mark of the second quarter. That was the closest Warren would get. The Griffins, who were without starting point guard Ryan Keller (pneumonia) but got a solid performance by fill-in Andrew Pleick, went up by as 14 points early in the fourth quarter. But the Bears clawed their way back into the game and pulled to within four points, 61-57, on Williams' basket with 24 seconds remaining.Ronnie Prettyman scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half to lead the Griffins (20-7) past the Bears at home. Jeff Grgas had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Los Alamitos, which will play Ontario next. Warren finished at 21-6.

Oxnard 82, Irvine 71--Damian Tafoya scored 25 points and Matthew Merricks added 24 for the Yellowjackets at Oxnard.  Tafoya had 11 points in the third quarter and Merricks scored 11 in the second quarter. Tafoya had six three-point baskets and Merricks made four.  The Yellowjackets (21-6) took a 21-4 lead with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Oxnard has seven consecutive victories and has won 13 of its last 14 games. Matthew Merricks had 24 for Oxnard (21-6), which won its seventh consecutive game.  Chris Ferguson scored 24 points for visiting Irvine which finished the season at 18-9.

Long Beach Poly 82, Esperanza 71 --Senior guard Ken Wright was on fire for the second-seeded Jackrabbits, making eight of 11 shots from the field on the way to a game-high 21 points as Poly rolled to a 79-55 first-round victory over the visiting Aztecs. The Jackrabbits, who advanced to the title game last season, will play Oxnard in a second-round game Tuesday night at a site to be determined. The Yellowjackets (21-6) defeated Irvine in their playoff opener, 82-71. Wright nailed five of seven shots from 3-point range, and along with backcourt mate Wesley Stokes, keyed a Jackrabbits' defense that forced Esperanza into 23 turnovers. It took Poly (21-6) about a quarter and a half to really get going against Esperanza. But forwards Charles Jones and Markee White came off the bench to score a combined 12 points in the second quarter, and Stokes added seven of his 12 points in the period as the Jackrabbits broke away from a 19-19 tie to forge a 38-26 advantage at halftime. Wright put things away in the third quarter, sinking three 3-pointers and scoring 13 points overall in the period, which ended with the Poly comfortably ahead at 57-35. Most of Wright's shot attempts came after deft passes by Stokes, who had four of his team-high nine assists in the quarter. Jones finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds and White added nine points and five rebounds for the Jackrabbits. Junior swingman Jon Steven scored a team-high 20 points for Esperanza (15-13).
