CIF Southern Section Playoffs: Division III-A
Semifinal Round Schedule --(Feb. 22, 1999)

If you've been following our reports of results in the various Division first and second round games, then you should also know about the upcoming matchups on Tuesday, February 23.   What you won't know is where those games will be played.

Of course, in Division III-A, there's a wonderful, wacky 8 team bracket where only 6 teams actually "qualified" for the playoffs and another two had to be chosen from among the ranks of the non-(un)-qualified to be able to field a complete bracket with 8 teams.  Because there were so few games to be scheduled, there will be no games played Tuesday in this Division.

The next scheduled games in this division are on Friday, February 26, 1999 and those will be Semifinal contests.

Hey, where else can you win two games and make it to the State Tournament? What a life.

Since these games are subject to the "Alternate Gym" rule, they will not be played at the "Home" team's gym, but will instead be played at a site designated by the home team.  The home team has been designated by a coin flip. Again, in case you forgot, here is the definition of "Alternate Gym" from the Playoff Handbook issued to all Athletic Directors for 1999:

"An alternate gym is defined as any site on which a team does not conduct regular practice.  A team may schedule more than one game in the same gym, and the facility would still be considered an "alternate" gym as long as NO practice session was conducted in that facility.  In games where a team is entitled to a host court, but its regular gym does not have adequate seating capacity to meet playoff standards and the game is ordered to be played at another facility, that team may conduct practice at this facility prior to the contest."

This definition applies to the games in III-A for the Semifinal Round (of course the "first round" was also the "quarterfinal round, and should have applied there as well, but it didn't, so go figure).  The "Home Team" (determined by the flip of a coin) gets to designate the "Alternate Gym".

The location of the game, i.e., the "Alternate Site" is shown in red.  The "Home Team" is listed first and the "Visitor" is listed second.
