CIF Southern Section Playoffs: Division II-A
Quarterfinal Round Schedule --(Feb. 22, 1999)

If you've been following our reports of results in the various Division first and second round games, then you should also know about the upcoming Tuesday matchups.  What you won't know is where those games will be played.  Most second round game sites were determined by flipping a coin, the choice of venue being the two teams playing.  But several rounds are already into the quarterfinals, so in some cases, the game sites have to be an "Alternate gym."   Here's the definition of "Alternate Gym" from the Playoff Handbook issued to all Athletic Directors for 1999:

"An alternate gym is defined as any site on which a team does not conduct regular practice.  A team may schedule more than one game in the same gym, and the facility would still be considered an "alternate" gym as long as NO practice session was conducted in that facility.  In games where a team is entitled to a host court, but its regular gym does not have adequate seating capacity to meet playoff standards and the game is ordered to be played at another facility, that team may conduct practice at this facility prior to the contest."

This definition becomes important for Divisions I, II, III & IV quarterfinal, semifinal and championship games.  In Division V, only the semifinal and championship games need be played on alternate courts.  The "Home Team" (determined by the flip of a coin) gets to designate the "Alternate Gym".

Since this round for this division is a Quarterfinal Round, all the games from now on will be played at an "Alternate Gym" so the host team (which merely selectes where the game will be played) is listed first.  This only really covers the quarter and semifinal rounds, because the final will be held at the Pond, which is surely an "alternate site" for everyone.

The location of the game, i.e., the "Alternate Site" is shown in red.  The "Home Team" is listed first and the "Visitor" is listed second.
