CIF Southern Section Playoffs: Division I-AA
Second Round Schedule --(Feb. 22, 1999)

If you've been following our reports of results in the various Division first and second round games, then you should also know about the upcoming Tuesday matchups. What you won't know is where those games will be played. Most second round game sites were determined by flipping a coin, the choice of venue being the two teams playing. But several rounds are already into the quarterfinals, so in some cases, the game sites have to be an "Alternate gym." Here's the definition of "Alternate Gym" from the Playoff Handbook issued to all Athletic Directors for 1999:

"An alternate gym is defined as any site on which a team does not conduct regular practice. A team may schedule more than one game in the same gym, and the facility would still be considered an "alternate" gym as long as NO practice session was conducted in that facility. In games where a team is entitled to a host court, but its regular gym does not have adequate seating capacity to meet playoff standards and the game is ordered to be played at another facility, that team may conduct practice at this facility prior to the contest."

This definition becomes important for Divisions I, II, III & IV quarterfinal, semifinal and championship games. In Division V, only the semifinal and championship games need be played on alternate courts. Of course, as with anything "CIF", the commissioner can always order that the game be played on an alternate court if the hose court doesn't meed CIF-SS playoff standords or can't handle the anticipated crowd.

Having said that, here's the schedule for Tuesday in Division I-AA Second Round. Note that these games are not required to be played at an "Alternate Gym" so the host team (where the game will actually be played) court is listed first:
